THE EXPERIENCE

"I regard it as the foremost task of education to ensure survival of these qualities: An enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self-denial and above all, compassion."
-Kurt Hahn

Forest

The Okanagan ecosystems includes a gorgeous Ponderosa Pine forest, a spectacular view of the Okanagan Lake as well as as the transitions from lakeshore to mountain top.  The terrain includes: riparian, wetland, Ponderosa Pine, and Douglas-fir.
This diverse environment is a perfect classroom.

Beach

Kelowna is home to over 30 beaches! So why not utilize this PRIVLEDGE?!
Meandering down the sandy shore we study weather and wind patterns, erosion, construction and  engage in risky play.

Mountain

The local canyons are highly educational. Ancient volcanic activity has created an exceptional geologically unique biome. Creeks, and giant cedars create a magical and enchanted feeling. The  mountainside views and bubbling sound of water in the background makes for a serene setting; perfect for bird watching and shelter building!

The Learners & the Teachings

" 'I think', said Christopher Robin, 'That we ought to eat all our provisions now, so we won't have so much to carry'"
-A. A. Milne

The KIDS

At We Think Outside we have a 'no-room's schoolhouse' mentality, meaning that we all learn together like the one-room school house our grandmothers taught in. But, without any rooms at all, as, we are OUTSIDE!
We have a multi-age / grade attitude as we firmly believe that every child has something to teach and offer another.
We teach a full time offering of workshops that will transcend "regular schooling" and if utilized properly, offer a full scholastic option for your child's education.

We offer three different locations of once-a-week forest schools  (10 month commitment) and we also offer weekly and monthly
spaces accessible for youth and teens who want to immerse themselves in the outdoors, learn survival skills, get off their screens and out of their desks.

The PHILOSOPHY

"No one rises to low expectations", this is a quote that we live by at We Think Outside. People are capable and our job is to help them to that realization. Here, we believe that strong capable kids are the kids of the future. We help them build their resilience, confidence and perseverance through day to day tasks, problem solving, risky play and an experiential approach to learning.
"Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold." - Joseph Chilton
Daily, we introduce new skills and ideas, allow time for questions and exploration of the topic and then give time to play around with the concept, in a hands-on manner!
