OVERVIEW & TARGET STUDENT

This hands-on workshop merges the quiet observation of nature journaling with the rugged skills of wild tracking and ancient tool making. Each week, students will step into the woods to develop deep observation skills, record their findings in custom homemade field journals, and apply their knowledge in real time by tracking local wildlife through the forest.

Alongside field skills, students will explore the rich history of primitive engineering—examining how Indigenous and ancient cultures across the world designed, crafted, and utilized tools and weapons for survival. Through hands-on building projects, students will gain a profound appreciation for historical survival techniques, human ingenuity, and the natural world, taking home every primitive weapon and tool they build.

Prerequisites for this class include being able to listen to direction, be safe in the forest with tools and an understanding of risky play vs dangerous play.

The Fine Print: We teach the "real stuff" in real environments, which means safety and readiness are non-negotiable. We Think Outside reserves the right to withdraw any student from a program if our expert team determines they do not yet have the required skill level or readiness for the terrain. Withdrawal may also occur due to missing essential gear/materials, incomplete payments, or conduct issues. We are committed to a high-quality experience, and that starts with ensuring everyone on the trail is fully prepared.
